'Above' you, your own managers, next to you, your fellow team leaders but also the various customers and stakeholders you serve and 'below' you the team you manage.<\/p>\n<p>This role used to be described as the 'sandwich position', sandwiched between above and below. The sandwich view often leads to a feeling of only being able to react in the organisation's rat race. Surviving rather than steering, reactive rather than strategic.<\/p>\n<p>We therefore speak of the 'midfield player'. The one who distributes the ball across the entire playing field. Someone who co-directs proactively.
