There is more than enough work<\/h2>\n

As consultant I am in the industry of supporting and advising businesses to\u00a0grow and design their unique business. This means that my target market can be\u00a0broadly defined as any individual and company who want to either start a\u00a0business or grow a current business. In South Africa alone there are more than\u00a0a million registered small and medium enterprises. This number of customers in\u00a0my industry is a great number to try and work with as one company. I might be able to assist fifty businesses a year. This means it will take me thousands of\u00a0years to assist just these million-plus small and medium enterprises. I will never\u00a0be able to do that, not even considering the fact that I must live to be sixty\u00a0thousand years of age.<\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/span><\/div>

Doing this calculation has taught me a few things:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. There is more than enough work.<\/em> I don\u2019t have to compete with anyone. In fact, I\u00a0appreciate all the other consulting firms for the great work they do with the\u00a0customers I cannot reach.<\/li>\n
  2. We need many competitors.<\/em> Competitors keep each other alert. Your competition\u00a0brings out the best in you. Don\u2019t talk down on your competitors. Respect your\u00a0competition.<\/li>\n
  3. Seek ways to collaborate.<\/em> At xpand<\/em>, we collaborate with other firms and even\u00a0would help them build their consulting businesses. We do license trainings for\u00a0those who want to use our processes in their firms. Together we reach more\u00a0people.<\/li>\n
  4. Focus on doing your best with the customers your serve.<\/em> Your service can either harm\u00a0or build your industry. If a few companies in an industry give off a bad taste in\u00a0the mouths of some customers, customers will start to distrust the entire\u00a0industry and all the companies representing it. Do quality work to keep a\u00a0healthy reputation for your industry.<\/li>\n
  5. Don\u2019t compare yourself.<\/em> Each company is unique. All the companies serving\u00a0these three million small and medium enterprises are unique and have a unique\u00a0role to play.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tips to grow in taking your place in the market:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Celebrate your competitors<\/li>\n
    2. Be open to learn from your competitors<\/li>\n
    3. Let go of unhealthy mindsets and beliefs about your market.<\/li>\n
    4. Do your best to promote quality in your industry.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
